Piclits – Inspired Picture Writing

PicLit from PicLits.com

Reach into the Toolbox #2

Choose a picture from the Piclits picture gallery. The website supplies a list of nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs and ‘universal’ words and punctuation which are appropriate to the chosen picture.  Simply drag and drop words onto the picture to create a sentence, poem, list, phrase etc. A drop down box allows you to change the form of the word and to capitalise it for the start of a sentence.  You also have the option to ‘freestyle’ by typing in the words that you want!

An excellent tool for developing literacy creatively and imaginatively across the curriculum – there is an extensive range of pictures to choose from.  You can view piclit examples in the gallery and learn how to use piclit effectively in the “Learn It” section which also includes advanced lesson plans for teachers.

You don’t need an account to use Piclit – you can display images on the board/computer for pupils to use.  However if you want to save a piclit, create a piclit blog or share your work, you will need to register with an email address.  Class accounts could be created but will not attribute the work to individual pupils.  One thing to note:  adverts are displayed on the home page so pupils should be deterred from clicking on them.

This site is well worth a look if only to look at some truly beautiful and thought-provoking pictures!

See you next week,

Claire
