Photostory

Reach into the Toolbox #5

I know this is old hat…..I know Photostory has been around for years…. but I absolutely love this free download from Microsoft.  This simple wizard based programme allows you to upload and edit images, add text, narration and music as well as play with image transitions and effects.  The resulting effect is a ‘movie’ of transformed images which can tell some interesting and beautiful stories.

I’ve used Photostory extensively in my work with teachers and teaching assistants, enabling them to re-create school trips, display pupils’ work, create instructional videos and re-live their summer holidays!  We have also challenged pupils to tell stories – both fact and fictional – with a select and specific number of images.  The reaction has been one of delight (children) and surprise (adults) at the finished movies, as we have realised what the children have learnt from a specific event or lesson.

Photostory is easy to download either onto one machine or across a network.  I think it is much easier to use than Windows MovieMaker and it is certainly my preferred choice.  In fact, I think I’ll have a go now………..

See you next week

Claire
